Free School Meals

Please apply if you are entitled to these.

We are aware that not all pupils who are entitled to receive free school meals have registered to do so. We wish to ensure that all families with such entitlement have the opportunity to apply to be included in the scheme.

There are three reasons why it is important that families entitled to this benefit register their claim:

  • Students receive daily lunch and snacks offered.
  • Parents and carers are provided with food vouchers during school holidays.
  • All schools receive additional funding from the government based on the number of students who are entitled and have claimed free school meals. We currently receive a sum of money for each student registered as eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years. Just registering your child for free school meals means that the school gets this extra money which we use towards provision for disadvantaged children at Educate U.

You may be able register your child for free school meals if you receive any of the following benefits:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you are not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit - if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)
  • Children who get paid these benefits directly, instead of through a parent or guardian, can also get free school meals.
